About the Role

Perform as primary mechanical/packaging technical interface with the customer during new product development programs. Communicate customer needs with North American and China engineering organization, and with customer support team in Japan, or vice-versa.

This position leads the conceptualization, design, implementation, and testing of technologies, tools, or processes while consistently demonstrating technical expertise and ingenuity. Demonstrates the ability to plan, define, and execute projects with no supervision. Be recognized throughout the Division as an emerging expert.

This position serves as a team leader and/or mentor for fellow mechanical design engineers. Responsible for the design and development of products, as well as direct the activities of other mechanical design engineers, per the direction of the Departmental Manager.


What You Will Do

  • Support customer’s audio design department on the integration aspects of new product development programs.

    • Convey design requirements to the customer’s audio design department, including reserving packaging space for speaker assemblies.

    • Create 3-D CAD engineering models of mechanical packaging concepts. Create prototype and/or production-level CAD models and design documentation. Provide these models to our customer and to design engineering teams.

  • Communicate customer design direction and changes to the design team, including program management, transducer/acoustics/systems engineering, quality, and sales.

    • Lead activities associated with the transfer of CAD files, specifications, change requests, roll-out plans, etc., between the customer and using data exchange systems.

    • Review packaging models with the customer and the development team.

    • Coordinate the communication of related design documentation between the customers and teams.

    • As necessary, track engineering change requests.

  • Chair and/or attend customer meetings as the engineering representative. Coordinate meeting assignments with fellow Resident Engineers, as necessary. Provide immediate feedback to the appropriate personnel.

    • Early system packaging meetings

    • Audio system open issue meeting

    • Component packaging reviews

    • Design reviews at the each development phases

    • Issue-resolution reviews following customer builds at the each development phases

    • Pilot reviews and launch-readiness meetings

    • Assist / Support bench / in-vehicle audio system evaluations and support review of customer evaluation check sheet

    • Failure analysis and prevention both at a product level and process level (such as interfaces between customer and company)

  • Review sample parts with the customers for immediate feedback.

    • Verify integration of components in vehicles at the each phases

    • Compare customer and company components against CAD models and drawings.

  • Report/negotiate engineering specifications to/with the customer.

  • Assess the customer’s mindset. Report substantial changes in the customer’s perceptions of company performance to Engineering and Sales management.

  • Assist Sales personnel in supporting the customer, as necessary.

    • Communicate all commercial issues by the customer to the appropriate Sales personnel. All cost and price related discussions are the responsibility of Sales personnel.

    • Forward information on customer and competitor activities relevant to cmpany interests.

  • Develop advanced product designs in cooperation with the appropriate engineering disciplines and technicians according to company, customer, and required regulations and specifications.

  • Create and release appropriate company and customer engineering documentation.

  • Support fellow Resident Mechanical Integration Engineers as needed.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.

応募資格

What You Need

  • Bachelors in Engineering, Masters preferred.
  • 15 + years related technical experience or equivalent.
  • Able to communicate in Japanese (spoken and written), business level English skill is required.
  • 15 + year experience as a supplier to Japanese carmaker or working for a Japan automotive OEM.
  • 7 + year experience using Catia Design Tools.
  • Strong written communication skills – must be able to clearly and concisely communicate technical information.
  • Strong interpersonal skills – must work well on a team with customer and Harman functional groups.
  • Ability to manage several projects efficiently and meet schedules, as well as work under pressure and maintain a high level of output.
  • Strong computer skills using Microsoft products.
