Product Engineer (#1299)

Product Engineer – will report to the Sales and Engineering Manager and will be responsible for product design, engineering development, technical validation, and customer technical support for Smart Components Products.

Location: Toyota, Aichi, Japan preferred.  Tokyo, Japan may also be considered as a secondary location.

Responsibilities

• Become a technical focal point both internally and externally for product design and development activities
• Understand customer technical requirements, specifications, drawings, testing requirements, and development milestones
• Develop product concepts and design solutions that meet customer requirements, cost targets, quality expectations, and manufacturing feasibility
• Support project management activities as needed to ensure customer and internal development schedules and milestones are met
• Lead and support design activities including 3D/2D review, tolerance analysis, DFMEA, DRBFM, design validation, and design reviews
• Coordinate with global engineering teams to align product design, technical direction, validation plans, and engineering deliverables
• Support technical discussions with JOEMs and key tier suppliers from the engineering perspective
• Identify technical risks and propose countermeasures during RFQ, development, validation, and launch phases
• Support product validation, testing, and issue resolution with internal teams and customers
• Drive customer discussions with deep product design, manufacturing, material, and testing knowledge
• Proactively identify customer pain points and support CBI(Customer Back Innovation) activities to create differentiated value through engineering solutions
• Support program launches by ensuring engineering deliverables meet internal and external milestones
• Create technical reports, design review documents, test reports, customer presentation materials, and other engineering documents upon request
• Understand JOEM development processes, expectations, and culture, and communicate them effectively to internal stakeholders
• Demonstrate personal effectiveness, ownership, and technical leadership that contribute to a culture of high performance

Position Skills and Experience Requirements

• Bachelor or Master degree in business or/and engineering, or equivalent
• Knowledge and experience in automotive product design. Experience in designing and/or development automotive interior and/or exterior plastic injected products
• Product design and/or Product development experience in automotive more than 10 years or equivalent
• Ability and experience to identify potential future products and trends
• Proven ability to manage complexity and change
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills with experience in communicating and working with remote regions
• English capability under multinational working environment
• Working experience at foreign based companies is a plus
• Flexible working time to communicate with stakeholders in different time zone
• Native level Japanese, fluent English
